The InnoHealth China campaign – led by the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft – is part of the initiative „Research in Germany“ which is launched and financed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. InnoHealth China is focussed upon small and medium enterprises (SME) and start-ups aiming to connect the Chinese and German healthcare research sector in order to build networks for possible mutual benefit. In this respect, InnoHealth China looked for the most innovative ideas in AI, telemedicine, precision healthcare, biotechnology and drug discovery and healthy food. Now the winners of the Call for Ideas & Innovation have been chosen: Seven tandems, each of them consisting of one representative from research and science and one from a SME or start-up.
From endoscopic, magnetically steerable capsule drones to the use of social media in precision medicine and to a platform for the rapid detection of epidemics: the projects awarded as part of the InnoHealth China campaign mainly revolve around the development of solutions, improvements in diagnostics, analysis and enable application – both for patients and for employees in the health sector. The focus of all winning projects is always on people.
The winning Research-SME-Tandems will attend an exclusive event – the Idea2Project Workshop – within the Innovationstag Mittelstand in Berlin. Representatives and stakeholders of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and different funding organizations like the Förderberatung des Bundes will present the diverse and appropriate funding programs and options to further develop and implement the projects.
Furthermore, the winners will get the possibility to participate in the Matchmaking Tour in China. The tour will offer the opportunity for an exchange with Chinese representatives from institutions and companies in the healthcare research sector to facilitate the dialogue between both countries’ sectors. The Matchmaking Tour includes several presentations, workshops, showcases and the possibility to network with local stakeholders. Earlier plans, scheduling the tour in March 2020, had to be preventively postponed due to the current situation caused by the corona virus. The Matchmaking Tour, led by the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft in cooperation with the German-Chinese Chamberof Commerce and Industry in Beijing – will probably take place in fall 2020.
These are the seven companies which have been awarded for InnoHealth China: biosaxony Management GmbH, eMedicals Healthtech GmbH, Invandus OHG, RMGerätebau, Thomas Hilfen für Körperbehinderte GmbH & Co. Medico KG, Thomas J.C. Matzen GmbH and Xpectors. Among the winners of research and science are the University of Bonn, the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg and the Hospital of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt. Also, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is represented by four of its institutes: the Institute for Ceramics Technologies and Systems IKTS, for Microengineering and Microsystems IMM, for Software and Systems Engineering ISST and for Molecular Biology and Applied Ecology IME.
